Described by those in the know as the hottest new destination in Africa the Quirimbas Archipelago in northern Mozambique is special, remote, responsible, beautiful and still largely untouched by commercial developments.  For corporate, incentive and special interest group travel the region offers some very special and stimulating options - far more than just an exotic island getaway experience and for participants with a eco and social conscious it also provides a chance for guests to ‘give something back’, ‘go green and assist with conservation’. Most of the lodges in the region have strong community and development components which can also be incorporated into the overall indulgent and spoil experience.

Day One

06h00 Meet and Greet at O.R Tambo International

• Guests to check in from 06h00 at the LAM check in counter.
• A dedicated representative to meet clients on arrival at the counter.
• A dedicated representative to wear branded clothing.
• Each guests to receive an itinerary and brochure pack.
• Board plane. Guest will fly from Johannesburg to Pemba courtesy of LAM, Mozambique’s national airline.

• Group will arrive at Pemba International Airport, and proceed to arrival hall. Immigration forms will need to be filled out.
• Each guest will then proceed through to the immigration area. Every guest will need to pass through this post as the officials need to verify the passports.

• A dedicated representative will assist guests with identification of luggage and the transfer to the busses.
• Guests will be supplied with still bottle water during the short 10 minute transfer to the hotel.
• Management will meet guests on arrival with refresher towels and non-alcoholic welcome drinks.
• Check in is done and guests will be given room keys.
• Porters to transfer luggage to rooms. Guests to be taken with golf cart.
• Porters to introduce themselves to the guests, then run through all the information about the room.
• Welcome note and gift pack to be in room on arrival.

The exotic Pemba Beach Hotel & Spa resort is Pemba’s current large scale luxury hotel development offering accommodation overlooking the sea and a full range of beach holiday activities.

The hotel offers exclusivity and tranquility in an idyllically beautiful and tropical setting on the un-spoilt Mozambican coastline. Perched on the shoreline with endless blue ocean to the horizon and set amongst swaying palm trees Pemba Beach Hotel offers you the ultimate getaway.

All rooms are sea facing, with individual balconies or terraces. The bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with a bath and a shower, air conditioning, mini-bar, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, coffee/tea making facilities, electronic safe, international plug sockets and hair dryer. All rooms have 24 hour room service and laundry & valet service.

Outside the rooms, manicured lawns stretch down to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The infinity edge swimming pool presents an excellent opportunity for sunning and swimming and to enjoy pool side cocktails. The Niassa bar serves snacks and drinks, whilst the main restaurant specializes in buffet spreads with ample fresh seafood, as well as good A la Carte options.

A short walk through the manicured gardens takes you to Club Naval which is where all the hotels activities are based and the PADI dive and water sports centre situated. A full range of water sports are offered promising to keep the most adventurous of you occupied. Snorkeling, water skiing, tube skiing, para sailing, jet skiing, windsurfing, hobie sailing kayaking and sport fishing are all on offer. Club Naval also has a more informal bar serving bar type snacks and lighter meals.

For those who prefer a more relaxed agenda the Pemba Beach Hotel spa is a stunning way to spend the day. Built and operated in conjunction with Sanctuary the spa is situated perched above the beach and the range of luxury facilities including a Jacuzzi and plunge pool and bar is available to hotel residents as well as those making use of the spa treatments.

15h00 - 18h00 Relax and explore

• Guest will have the afternoon to explore the hotel grounds, relax at one of the hotel’s two swimming pools or the word class spa.

• Guests will be addressed and welcomed on the trip. An orientation of the next few days will be given.
• Guests to enjoy pre dinner drinks

• A themed buffet dinner will be offered on day 1.

• Room drops – schedule for next day, with Pemba information pack.

Day Two

Guided tour of Pemba in an air conditioned vehicle with an English speaking guide. Visits include the Old Town (the Baixa), Paquitequete, (the original fishing settlement around which modern Pemba was built), Mbanguia market, (local produce market) and a Makonde carving co-operative.

Refresh and relax.

Day Three

• Guest to check out at reception.
• All bills to be settled before departure.
• Guest will be transferred to the airport.

• Whilst guests are being transferred to Matemo Island. Bottled water will be available, in the lounge.

• The group will depart from Pemba International Airport.
• Depending on group size, the group will be split up into smaller groups to suit the plane configuration that is available.

• Group will arrive at Matemo Island air strip (on various planes should this be a large group size).
• Short transfer to Matemo lodge by road.
• Guests will be welcomed with refresher towels and non- alcoholic cocktails.
• Lodge orientation will be given while check in is done.
• Lunch will be served at leisure.

Matemo Lodge is an unspoilt, unexplored island paradise, surrounded by exotic private white beaches with countless coves to be discovered. The resort offers guests the quintessential tropical island experience, white sand beaches and oodles of palm trees swaying in the breeze.

The resort has twenty-four chalets which are situated within walking distance from the beach. The style of the chalets is a mixture of modern architecture mixed with an ethnic Moroccan style furnishings and decor. Each chalet has an en-suite with indoor and outdoor showers, custom-made baths, and spacious veranda with loungers and hammocks. All the amenities one expects from a luxury resort conforming to internationally accepted standards can be found.

• Boat transfer to neighboring Ibo Island

Ibo Island Lodge is the perfect place to explore the Quirimbas Archipelago National Park in Northern Mozambique. Ibo Island’s magic is overwhelming. Steeped in history, rich in culture and nominated as a potential World Heritage Site, the island dates back to the early 1600’s, making it one of the most ancient settlements in Mozambique. Since its role as one of the country’s central trading centers, Ibo has remained all but forgotten to the outside world for almost a century. Today you can wander around the mysterious town amongst forts and ancient romantic buildings with many fascinating stories just waiting to be retold.

Ibo Island boasts much more than historical significance. This island is one of the most pristine destinations in Africa. The warm turquoise waters surrounding Ibo are inhabited by turtles and tropical fish; viewings of dolphins and whales are frequent whilst the bird life is abundant and varied. Here you will encounter idyllic beaches and explore rich coral reefs.  Guests can also take to the water to discover the Quirimbas National Park in sailing and motorized dhows or quietly paddle through the mangroves in kayaks.

The lodge has spectacular views over the waterfront and accommodates guests in beautifully decorated rooms.  Three historic colonial mansions with high ceilings have been stylishly renovated to accommodate 14 en-suite bedrooms with various verandas, tropical gardens and a spectacular roof top restaurant that provides the ideal venue to watch the sun go down.

On Ibo Island become immersed in the unchanged, ancient culture of Ibo and the chance to interact with wonderfully gentle islanders, or simply relax at one of the pools, refresh the senses with a massage and soak up the exotic atmosphere.

• Full day on Ibo Island

• Traditional bush lunch and local cultural afternoon in the outlying villages of Ibo. Traditional drumming group for entertainment and a chance for guests to have a go themselves with a traditional drumming session.
• Traditional sailing dhow race and snorkel treasure hunt to the sandbank beach hideaway off Ibo Island.
• A seafood BBQ lunch on Ibo’s unique beach option… a powder white sandbank.
• Football match with the lodge team against the locals.
• Ibo race and explore - On foot around the stone town, incorporating a kayak race into the mangroves to find clues etc.
• Usual activities can also be beefed up to include sunset drinks cruises, guided bird options, sunrise, or moonlit history and ambience experiences etc.
• Meals and themed events at the forts, disco excursions, visits to school and silversmiths project etc.
• Traditional silversmiths hand craft exquisite intricate jewellery using ancient Arab techniques and tools. Handcrafting silver – pairing silversmiths with teams trying their hands at making the silver jewellery.
• For more challenging adventure type team builds, we can plan a part walking part kayak part boat and wade adventure to Quirimbas island where they can do a guided tour of the island and meet the Gesners and then boat back to Ibo for a celebration dinner – it entails wading through the swamps, and seeking birds and is a real adventure.

Day Five

• Guest’s luggage will be picked up by porter.

• Guests will check out and settle all outstanding personal accounts with reception.
• Guests will be transferred to airstrip for island transfer.
• Air transfer from Matemo Island to Pemba.

• Check in for outgoing LAM flight from Pemba to Johannesburg.

• Depart Pemba, arriving into Johannesburg International Airport at 19h00.
